If you are scanning regular words in a regular font of a normal size, with good scanning technique, there is an error margin of approximately 3%. This means that we can guarantee scanning accuracy of approximately 97%.

Errors in OCR recognition may be caused by poor quality printed materials, irregular fonts, scanning too fast or incorrect scanning technique.

Depending on your product, you can easily correct mistakes on the Pen by using the Virtual Keyboard (Virtual Keyboard icon which can be accessed from the application toolbar), the Opticard or the Character Bar. If you are transferring data to your PC, you can also edit it directly on the PC.

Quicktionary TS Premium / InfoScan TS / InfoScan TS Elite

The data storage applications on the Pen can hold up to 500 pages (8 1/2" x 11" pages with 10-12 point font) of scanned text. This is equivalent to 20,000 lines of text.

Quicktionary 2 Premium

The data storage applications on the Pen can hold up to 1000 pages (8 1/2" x 11" pages with 10-12 point font) of scanned text.

Note that the number of pages you can scan will vary if have a SuperPenTM or Quicktionary®2 Premium onto which you have added some dictionaries. The amount of free space on the Pen will vary depending on the number of the dictionaries you have added and how much space they take up on the extension card.

A page is estimated to be an 8 1/2" x 11" page (letter size) with 12-point font. It is unlikely that you would ever use this amount of space as you will more than likely periodically tranfer your scanned data to your computer and delete the stored files from your Pen.

Exit the application you are currently working in. You will reach the Pen Main Menu. Scroll down to Preferences (or Settings if you have a QuickLink Pen Elite) and press ENT. Scroll to Right/Left-handed and press ENT. Press ENT to select Left-handed.

Your Pen will turn itself off automatically after a given period of idle time (i.e., when it is not being used) in order to protect the Pen and preserve the batteries. This feature is called Auto Shut-Off and can be adjusted from within the Preferences or Settings option in the Pen Main Menu.

Like any battery-operated device, battery life depends on Pen usage; whether you use the Pen intensively or only occasionally. The average battery life of the 2 AAA batteries used with the Pen is approximately one month. If you wish to use rechargeable batteries, we recommend using one of the following types: Radio Shack NI-Cadm, and GP Ni-Me-Hydr.

The Pen will notify you when your batteries have reached critical levels. Any data you have scanned is saved either in the Pen's internal memory or on the Pen's extension card so you will not lose any data, even if your batteries run out.

Quicktionary 2 / InfoScan 2 / ReadingPen 2

You can check the battery status on the Pen by accessing the Battery Status option from Pen Main Menu\Information.

You will find two numbers relating to the Pen version, the general Pen version which can be seen in bold on the first line, and the operating system version (Pen OS) which can be found below it. When referring any queries to our support team, please mention BOTH numbers.

Note: On some Pens, the Pen Operating System version is located at the end of all the text in the About menu (please scroll down to the bottom of the text to check the operating system version).

The serial number can be located in 2 ways:

  1. Open the battery compartment. You will find the 10-digit serial number under the batteries.
  2. Exit the application you are currently working in by pressing ESC. You will reach the Pen Main Menu. Scroll down to Information and press ENT. Scroll down to Serial Number and press ENT.

The Quicktionary®2 Premium already contains a 6MB extension card, on which you can install either 2 or 3 one-directional dictionaries at once. The dictionaries you install on the Pen can be removed and replaced by other dictionaries if you want to install other dictionaries and don't have enough space on the extension card. You can buy an 8MB MEK (Memory Extension kit) if you wish to have more than 2-3 dictionaries installed at the one time. The 8MB MEK will give you room for one additional dictionary.

If you have a Quicktionary 2 or Reading Pen, adding extra memory in the form of an MEK will allow you to install additional dictionaries and also to enhance the Pen's capabilities, by adding the Notes, Address Book, Internet Links, Tables and Scan to PC applications which allow you to to scan, store and transfer printed text to the PC.

Only Pens with a base operating system above or equal to version 1.50 can be upgraded with an MEK. You can find the Pen Operating System version by removing the extension card at the back of your Pen and then turning the Pen on. Access the Pen Main Menu and scroll down to Information\About. The Pen Operating System number (Pen OS or OS) can be found in the About section either at the top of the text or right at the very end.

The Reading Pen can benefit any person (adults and children) who needs help recognizing certain words in text. This includes people with learning difficulties, dyslexia, literacy problems and those learning English as a second language.

Very young children, people with visual impairments and individuals with fine-motor problems may experience some difficulty in using the Reading Pen. However, this should be determined on a case-by-case basis.
