Using the Desktop Application

Using the Desktop Application

It is possible to manually back up the data you have transferred to the Desktop application by going to the File menu and choosing the Save As option. The files will automatically be saved in the Desktop folder. You can save the file in a different location according to the appropriate extension (either .txt or .doc for Notes, .xls for Tables, .csv for Address Book files).

If you wish to save the data in other applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Internet Explorer or Netscape), set the Host application settings in the Desktop application before you transfer data from your Pen to the PC.

Open the Desktop application and go to the View menu. Select Interface Language from the menu. Choose the interface language you want from the list and click ok. Exit the Desktop application by going to the File menu and selecting Exit. Open the Desktop application again to view the change.

If the Interface Language option is disabled it means that you didn't install any additional interface languages when installing the Desktop application. To install additional interface languages rerun the Desktop installation from the installation CD. You will see a screen entitled "Select Components" or "Select Features" Check the Desktop Interface Languages option and select the  languages you wish to install.

Host applications are external Windows applications into which data can be sent in addition to the Desktop application.

The available host applications are:  MS Word, MS Excel, MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook, Netscape (latest version).

If you want your files to be saved in Microsoft Office compatible formats you must activate the Host Settings function in the File Transfer Settings menu in the Desktop application.

  1. Select File Transfer Settings from the Pen Communications menu on the Menu Bar of the Desktop. The File Transfer Settings menu appears.
  2. Check the option This Pen Name will transfer files with host applications.
  3. Click on the Host Settings button (now enabled).
  4. Look at the information for each application in the Host Application column. Click on the line for each application and a drop-down menu will appear.
  5. Select the option you wish to activate for each application.

Note: Only one Pen can be associated with host applications. If the option This Pen Name will transfer files with host applications is disabled (greyed out) it means another Pen has already been selected to interact with these applications. If you wish to change it, go through the list of Pen names, find the one where the option is checked and deselect it.

The files will be saved in a folder in My Documents.
